Sifu Ow with his Double HooksBorn and raised in San Francisco, also the youngest of the Yau Kung Moon Sifu's, Richard Ow studied under Sifu Lok Sang Lee since 1987. Richard, at age 11, was introduced to the world of Yau Kung Moon by a family friend. He immediately met his first Love, YKM Kung Fu/Lion Dance... Within two years, he entered his first national competition in San Francisco and placed first in short weapons forms, using one of Yau Kung Moon's broadsword form. In 1991 and 1993, he placed first in another national tournament entering Yau Kung Moon's "Ying Ching" hand form and broadsword for short weapons forms. 1995 was Sifu Ow's last international competition in San Francisco. He placed first in long (spear) and short (double hooks) weapons, as well as "Ying Ching" (all Yau Kung Moon forms).

 

As one of Yau Kung Moon's veteran lead drummers, Sifu Ow has participated in many International Lion Dance competitions held overseas as well as locally representing the United States. Sifu Ow actively participates in many fund raising events for hospitals and senior homes in San Francisco.

 

Becoming one of Sifu Lok Sang Lee's top student, Sifu Ow has been assistant instructor for the past nine years. Being promoted in 2000 to Sifu, he has dedicated the majority of his life and free time in preserving and passing on the teachings of the YKM Kung Fu/Lion Dance system. Sifu Ow spent a year in China to learn calligraphy and to broaden his education in Chinese history and culture.
